19666.93 Square Meters 17-Storey Steel Structure Commercial & Hotel Complex In Luoyang
Project Information
Project location: Yibin District, Luoyang City, Henan Province
Project size: About 50m * 25m * 75.5m
Project application: Integrated commercial and hotel complex
Project details: 17 above-ground floors and 2 underground floors integrating commercial and hotel functions
Background
Yibin District of Luoyang is developing rapidly in modern service industry. To improve regional commercial supporting facilities and upgrade urban service capacity, this integrated commercial & hotel complex was constructed.
The project occupies a land area of about 4025.6 square meters. Total construction area is 19,666.93 square meters. The 1st floor has a height of 5m, the 2nd to 4th floors are 4.8m high, the 5th to 16th floors are 3.9m high, and the 17th floor is 3.95m high. The 1st and 2nd floors are commercial spaces, while the 3rd to 17th floors are hotel areas with supporting catering and guest rooms. The two underground floors are parking lots equipped with charging piles. It adopts a concrete-filled steel tube frame with eccentric bracing structure with a design service life of 50 years.

Design:
1. Columns and beams
All steel columns and steel beams of the project are fabricated from Q355B steel. The steel columns and steel beams are coated with rust-red anti-rust primer, and fire-resistant coating will be applied in subsequent construction to meet standard anti-corrosion and fireproof requirements.
The project adopts two types of concrete-filled steel columns. The welded circular pipe columns have an outer diameter of 650mm and a wall thickness of 14mm. Welded box columns come in multiple sizes with a consistent wall thickness of 14mm. Internal concrete filling greatly improves structural stiffness and compressive capacity.

The steel beam system uses welded H-sections, covering both equal-section and variable-section types. This matched structural component combination delivers stable mechanical performance and high overall structural safety for the project.

The beam-column joints adopt a combined bolt-weld connection system. High-strength bolts of M20 and M22 specifications are used for web connection, while full penetration welding is applied for beam flanges. This hybrid connection achieves dependable force transmission between steel columns and steel beams, with excellent rigidity and ductility. It satisfies high-rise seismic design requirements and guarantees the integral safety of the steel frame structure.

2. V-shaped eccentric bracing
The V-shaped eccentric bracings are key lateral force-resisting members of the concrete-filled steel tube frame system. Made of Q355B steel and coated with rust-red anti-rust primer, they greatly improve the building’s lateral stability against wind and seismic loads. Meanwhile, this structural arrangement minimizes inner column obstructions to maximize spacious open floor areas, balancing structural safety and flexible interior layout perfectly.

3. Mezzanine plate
The project adopts 100mm-thick steel bar truss floor decks, equipped with 1.0mm-thick profiled steel sheets at an effective width of 600mm. This floor system features high construction efficiency, excellent mechanical performance and lower overall project costs.

Holes are reserved under floor decks for subsequent lighting installation. Pre-cut openings eliminate on-site secondary cutting and speed up electrical work.

4.Anglebrace
Two sets of L100 model lateral angle braces are installed at the upper and lower positions between steel beams and columns. These L-shaped angle steel members deliver bidirectional lateral restraint to beam flanges. They effectively avoid out-of-plane buckling on the compression side of steel beams under loads, significantly boost the lateral torsional stability of welded H-beams, and secure the overall load-bearing safety of the floor steel structure system.

5. Stud
Studs of Φ19×80 are evenly fixed on the top flange of steel beams to fasten the steel bar truss floor decks. As shear connectors, these studs tightly combine steel beams and concrete slabs into an integrated composite floor system. They transmit horizontal shear force between steel and concrete, prevent relative sliding of the two materials, and maximize the synergistic mechanical performance of the floor structure.

6. Overhang Supporting Braces
L50 angle steel diagonal braces are arranged for the overhanging floor areas. The floor extends outward by 20 cm, and these braces support the edge of floor decks to maintain the overall structural stability.

The project is now under construction. The main structure has reached the 9th to 10th floors. Exterior glass curtain walls, doors, windows, elevators and other supporting facilities have not been installed yet. The whole project is expected to be completed within 3 to 4 months.
